He almost looked out of place strolling casually down the sidewalk in a pair of pressed black dress slacks and a deep red silk shirt, the collar and first button undone revealing a slash of beautifully pale flesh. Long platinum-blonde hair hung down his back loose and flowing, the soft breeze brushing through it like gentle fingers. He had left his home early that morning, leaving his lover alone in the large bed, fast asleep. He felt no remorse in doing so, but that was because he found that the man was growing boring; the same sex, the same face, night after night. It was enough to drive him mad, really.
Pausing outside a tall office building, Kinsey looked up with pale blue eyes, head cocked slightly to the side and an odd air of sadness coming to surround him. The Red Rose. How he missed that place; it had been his home for over fifteen years, where he had made many friends and met many people; gorgeous rich men that paid for his company, and the fellow hosts that were like a family to him.
Turning away with a heavy sigh, Kinsey found himself bumping into a solid body that grunted softly, steadying him as he stumbled from the impact. Looking up to say his thanks, the blonde’s eyes widened at the familiar face that greeted him.
“Lonan!”
“Kinsey? Shit, haven’t seen you in ages hon.” Kinsey couldn’t help but move to embrace the taller brunette, his head coming to rest on a broad shoulder as strong arms wrapped around his waist; it was wonderfully familiar yet different enough to be wonderful. Pulling away, he smiled brightly, delight in his eyes. “How you doing Kin?”
“Could be better, Lo. You? Still at the Rose?”
“Yeah, I am. Boss says I’m the best dom he’s ever had.” Lonan said with a deep chuckle, rubbing at the stubble that passed for a beard on his chin before running a hand through shoulder-length chestnut hair. “Things just ain’t been the same without you here, though. We were always in this together.”
“Hm. How about we go for coffee? If you have time…”
“Yeah, I have time. Let’s go.” So, five minutes later, the pair were sitting in a small café sipping at coffees and enjoying a slice of cake; they looked like such a motley pair sitting together, with the beautiful blonde and the rugged brunette sharing the small round table.
“So, Kinsey, what have you been doing since you left?”
“Well, moving from boyfriend to boyfriend mostly.” Kinsey said with a shrug and a sigh. “I can’t keep myself settled, I’m not used to the monotony of monogamy Lonan. It’s ruining me. I hate the fact that I can’t settle, and even finding temporary lovers is hard; nobody wants to top a guy my age.”
“Look, Kin, I know this is weird, but maybe you should go see a therapist. You’ll never be able to move on with your life if you can’t settle. Here. The boss has sent a few of the kids here to help them get over their fears, maybe he can help you, too.” Lonan dug out his wallet and withdrew a business card from within, passing it across the table to Kinsey. The blonde took it, reading it quickly with head cocked slightly to the side.
“Why do you have this?”
“I ended up having to go, myself. Hit a rough patch.” Lonan said with a shrug, his expression saying clearly that he wanted to speak no more on the matter. Nodding, Kinsey heaved a smile sigh and pocketed the card.
“Well, thanks Lonan. I’ll let you know how it goes.” Rising to his feet, Kinsey laid down a couple of bills to pay for their food and coffee before pressing a quick kiss to the brunette’s cheek and walking away.
*
And here he was now, sitting in the waiting room of the therapist’s office, absently fidgeting with a button on his sapphire-blue shirt, his hair tied back into a neat braid and draping over his shoulder. Slowly releasing a breath, Kinsey heard the door to the office opening and rose to his feet, ready for his first meeting with the doctor.

The door burst open with a blurry of fur barrelling out and tackling poor Kinsey to the floor. A large wet tongue slobbered over his face, heavy paws pressing on the poor man’s chest, the beast had a good amount of weight and strength to him, obviously not the pet of someone small and weak.
“Ah! Nimrod! Bad dog! You know that you’re not supposed to jump on people!” A strong hand gripped the collar of the massive canine, heaving him back over to his master’s side. The man that held the dog was tall, close to six feet, long black hair down to his waist, tied back in a low ponytail and streaked with a silvery gray that made him look far more older and experienced; he clipped a leash to the dog before letting a sigh loose and guiding the giant back into his office.
He glanced back at the man that had been knocked down and offered an outstretched hand to him. “I’m sorry about him, he stays true to his name sometimes. Normally he’s not here and he was getting a little anxious sitting in such a small office.” a response was a loud bark from the office before the man glared at the dog. “Nimrod!”
Another sigh as he looked back at the patient, “I’m sorry, I’m doctor Seon Sewoell.”

What exited through the opening door certainly was not what Kinsey had expected to encounter, a muffled cry of mingled surprise, fear, and pain passed his plush lips as he found his back meeting the ground none too gently. Giving a distinctly masculine snarl, his elegant hands lifted to shield himself and attempt to push the beast away. Thankfully, somebody came to his rescue.
A frown on his features, Kinsey found himself somewhat dazed and lacking of breath; the dog had knocked the wind right out of him. So he lay on the floor for a moment, panting to regain his breath until he saw the hand extended towards him. Accepting the help up, he rose easily to his feet, dusting himself off as best as he could, his frown only deepening as he discovered a tear on the expensive silk shirt, no to mention two missing buttons.
Inhaling and then exhaling slowly, Kinsey remained calm, soon turning his pale blue eyes to the other male, vague disdain obvious in his expression despite the fact that he tried to remain good-natured. It was hard; he'd been short-tempered ever since being let go from The Rose and it really didn't suit him. After making sure that his braid was still neat and fully intact, Kinsey focused his attention back on Seon, nodding his head in greeting.
"Kinsey Sterling. I have an appointment." He said, a well-groomed eyebrow quirking upward slightly, pointedly.

“Ah yes, Sterling!” He had leaned over to the receptionist’s desk, double checking Kinsey’s arrival with the time and date. “Sorry, my receptionist went out for lunch, so I’m bit strained on doing all the work right now.”
Seon had walked back into his office, leaving the door open for Kinsey to follow. The man had set down a dog food dish filled with dry food for the hulking beast, water as well in order to keep him sated. Despite being a rather well respected therapist, his attire said otherwise. Dressed in a suit that was a mere gray with a powder blue shirt, no tie and the first few buttons undone; a cheap suit, nothing compared to what Kinsey was dressed in, but still did the job of looking professional.
Seon sat back in his chair, motioning for Kinsey to have a seat, but thankfully nowhere near the dog. “Once again, I apologize for my dog’s behaviour, normally I don’t have to have him here during the day, but my dog sitter had gone on vacation for a week and I couldn’t find a kennel that would let me drop him off during the day. Nimrod was supposed to go with my receptionist for a walk during her lunch, but she was having lunch with a friend that’s allergic to dogs.” Brown eyes glanced at the slight bit of damage caused by Nimrod’s playful pounce on his patient and the therapist was right away removing his check book from his desk drawer. “Sorry about the damages to your shirt, I’ll reimburse you for it. Nimrod’s been trained not to jump on people, but I guess he liked the way you smell. But I suppose we should get this session started. So why don’t you tell me one of the reasons as to why you have come to seek a bit of my advice and help?”

The blonde said nothing to Seon as the other man practically rambled, or that's what it sounded like to Kinsey anyway, the elegant male managing to retain his grace and poise despite the situation. Hesitating a moment as the doctor walked away, Kinsey soon followed, his blue eyes moving over to the dog before he took his seat across from the other man, brushing another speck of dirt from the sleeve of his once-pristine sapphire shirt before looking up once more, waving away the chequebook.
"I'll bring a bill next time I come; I'm not about to make you overpay for repairs, or replace it for that matter." Kinsey explained, shrugging his rounded shoulders lightly before relaxing back into the seat, amazingly at ease for being seated before a therapist, no concern written into the lines of his face even as he cocked his head thoughtfully at what was asked of him.
"Well...it'd honestly be easier to write out a list but since I don't have pen and paper on hand...I'm 35 and spent the last 15 years of my life as a male escort, I was let go from the service six months ago and haven't been able to settle into a monogamous relationship since. I find the lack of variety boring and the inability to find lovers trying, yet I can't help but think that all aspects of my life would improve if I could simple settle down. I'm not young anymore, after all, and nobody wants to die alone, right?" He rambled off before giving a sort shrug. "But to be honest, I really don't know why I'm here."

He had slipped the chequebook away from sight once more and nodded. “ Not a problem, I do feel about Nimrod’s actions though.” Seon had withdrawn his notepad, keeping his pen to quickly jot things down in his medical shorthand jargon that was nigh impossible for others to understand. He had pressed the tip of his pen to his lips, listening intently. Brown eyes skimmed over what he had written before glancing back up at his patient.
“Well you have some slight detachment issues and it could be because of the job that you held. Your job pretty much demanded sex without romantic attachment, so you became accustomed to living your life that way. Now you no longer have that job, so you’re trying to hold onto that same position on life and love, yet you know on a different plane of thought that you can’t really live your actual life with that mindset. You now what to be able to keep that constant relationship in order to solidify things in your life more rather than having to deal with a slew of variables that would come at you from jumping from one bed to another.”
Seon set his notepad aside on his desk and took a sip from his mug of coffee, he was attacking this from his standpoint as a medical doctor, yet could partially understand the loneliness that Kinsey was suffering from. “Pretty much you just need to coax yourself out of how you would view relationships in your previous line of work and try looking at it from a different point of view.”

Kinsey could only blink silently in amazement as Seon rambled off his thoughts on the blonde’s problems, the ex-escort seeming momentarily stunned into utter loss before he shook his head and seemed to snap out of it, leaning forward in his sear somewhat. “It’s not that I can’t form an attachment; more than once I found himself falling for fellow escorts and even to a client or two, but my biggest problem is the boredom. After a month or so of staring into the same face, having the same sex, it gets boring. And don’t pull that ‘spice things up in the bedroom’ shit on me because I’ve probably had more spice in my sex life than even you can imagine, it just gets plain boring. I can’t even look at my current lover when we have sex anymore; I have to be able to look away or not see him so I can picture him as someone else.”
Perhaps it sounded stupid, but it was the truth, it was the cold-hard truth. Leaning back again, Kinsey ran his fingers through the loose fringe of bangs that he had left hanging either side of his face, puffing a sigh past his lips. “And I’ve been trying Doc, honest, but nothing works. I just can’t settle…I dunno, maybe I just haven’t been able to form that all important connection or something…” Voice trails off to a faint grumbling before silencing entirely, Kinsey still unsure as to how a therapist was supposed to help his problems.

The therapist lifted his hands in defence of Kinsey’s remarks, a slight lift at the edge of his lips that was giving birth to a grin. “I wasn’t about to say anything about ‘spicing up your sex life’ with your current lover. I’m not a marriage counsellor and that’s what they say to couples who are in a rut. I can also be pretty certain that your career as escort allowed you to have a pretty active and wild sex life since a lot of people have a lot of different kinks and many of them can’t explore these kinks with their current monogamous partners, so they look to someone who wouldn’t be adverse to the ideas brought forth and wouldn’t be looking for a long term relationship.”
Seon had leaned back in his chair, folding his hands in his lap and smiling, “and since you worked at the Red Rose and I know that escorts there are high priced, you had some pretty high end clientele.” He let out a light sigh before writing a bit more in his pad, taking down various notes and mental thoughts. “What you need to do is find a connection to someone on a level that isn’t based upon looks or sex. A mental or emotional connection with someone who knows how you think and all that. Most people think that the human brain and body is wired to the animalistic idea of mating and reproducing a new generation.
“That may be a good chunk of the population, but there are those who are adverse to the idea. Others just look at sex for the pleasure and not the reproductive aspect, but when a person has had multiple partners and can’t seem to stick in a monogamous relationship, it’s usually because they have yet to find someone who connects with them on various levels and ideas that don’t just revolve around sex.” Of course he should be one to practice what he preaches, he mostly just had one-night stands with men, but that was because he had yet to find that person he truly connected with. The closest connection he had was with his dog, who happened to finally fall asleep after eating.

Leaning back in his seat, showing no signs of relaxing anytime soon, Kinsey allowed a small huff to pass his lips, starting to regret his decision of coming here in the first place. Sure, it had sounded like a good idea at the time, but now that he was here he really had no will to talk to this utter and total stranger. Besides, weren’t all therapists and psychiatrists’ crazy themselves? Toying absently with the end of his braid, Kinsey didn’t even look at Seon right now, instead staring at his hand as he twirled the strands of silvery-gold hair around and around his fingertips.
“Doc, the only people that can understand the life of an escort are another escort. Hell, it was a friend of mine from the Rose that referred me to you.” He explained with a soft shrug of his elegantly rounded shoulders, shaking his head softly. Honestly, there really wasn’t a chance that he would ever find somebody that he could connect with on a deeper basis, because every escort he had ever met, be they still in the business or not, had been disinterested in a relationship or had managed to settle already.
After all, once an escort fell in love they were of no use anymore. Kinsey had managed to lock his heart away after the first few years in service but now that he was out of it he found it difficult to reopen his heart to others; he had already broken many hearts by cheating and leaving. “Look, Doc, I came because I figured you’d be able to help me solve my problems and move on, and honest to god I want to, but I’m seriously doubting things right now…”

Seon had sighed, throwing his hands up in almost a look of defeat, he was never one to force people to remain for a session and he certainly wasn’t about to start now. Brown eyes continued to glance over what he had written, certain that his diagnosis was on the ball no matter what Kinsey was saying. “Despite the fact that I’ve handled clients who work at the Red Rose and they have nothing but good things about my work, I’m more than certain that the friend who suggested you come to see me also said the same.”
He had figured that they weren’t going to be doing much else, despite his being paid for the full hour session, so the pad remained upon the desk. “Look, you’re not an escort anymore and how you’ve trained yourself to not get attached to those you sleep with is something that will take time, however I’m more than certain that you know I’m right; somewhere deep down in your mind, you know what I’m saying about not having found a connection yet is right. Rome wasn’t built in a day and these kinds of things can’t be fixed right off the bat in one session…” a sigh passed from his lips before he leaned forward in his chair slightly, “but if you really don’t think that I can help you, then that’s all up to you. I’m going to suggest that you go out and try meeting someone new, but don’t focus on sex or anything like that right away; try just starting it as something simple, almost like a friendship.”
The man had stood up, walking over to the large plate glass window that over looked the part of the city from the high floor they were on. “Really, your options seem a bit limited right now, ignore your problem and continue moving from one pointless relationship to another, trying to figure things out for yourself and hope that you get somewhere with that option, or take my advice and possibly return to let me help you more.” Glasses were pulled off of his face just to get cleaned; Seon had continued watching Kinsey, but grabbed for his lens cleaner while keeping an eye on the blonde. “I’d prefer that you let me help you, but you have your other options and you’re free to leave whenever.”
