[Hakkai/Goku. Gonou's conception.]
A little over a month had passed since they had learned of Hakkai’s pregnancy and left the town which they had taken the supposed-sickly healer to. Aside from his morning sickness and occasional cramps, the healer was back to normal, driving Hakuryu with ease further westward, undaunted by the fact that he could not fight, nor use his chi if one of the others were injured. The brunette understood the doctor’s concerns though, realizing that using his powers would not only drain his own strength but that of his growing child.
And Gojyo understood this as well and was adamant in keeping the brunette in check. They had encountered a few demons along the route, but nothing that the other three couldn’t handle with ease. Despite this little distractions, though, the kappa always had Hakkai’s words niggling at the back of his mind, pestering him endlessly. He’d had many sleepless nights in the back of Jeep with Hakkai curled at his side; he figured it was better for the healer to sit in the back and lean against him rather than sleep upright in the front seat as his back was going to be hurting enough once that baby really started to grow.
“…have you ever had feelings towards anyone in the group? Myself or Goku, or even Sanzo?” Had he ever had any feelings? Did his fantasies count for something? This is what he got for not being allowed to smoke anymore, since he spent so much time around Hakkai; it led him to thinking, because he could no longer distract himself with that fiddly piece of smouldering rolled paper. He and Hakkai had been friends for, what? Three years now? Almost four? So of course he had feelings for the demon, but he wasn’t sure if they went beyond simple friendship, kinship, or simply the feeling of being the father of Hakkai’s child.
Feelings for Goku? Well, those would never happen. The monkey was obnoxious on the best of days, utterly clueless on the worst, and simply useless anywhere in between. The little punk was always stealing his food, calling him stupid names, and just generally mouthing off. Sure, in all technicalities, Goku was the oldest of them all, but he was really just a kid in body and mind. And as he’d said before, he was no pedophile. Then again, Goku was technically of the age of consent, but still.
And then there was Sanzo. The priest was as cranky as ever, more intent on drinking himself sick and beating on Gojyo than ever. But whenever the man was drunk and slumped at a table, barely conscious, Gojyo would see such an intense sadness in those droopy violet eyes that he wondered what was eating at the man. The taboo wasn’t stupid, by far; a little oblivious at times, but definitely not stupid, and it was getting to a point where he didn’t miss Sanzo’s reactions whenever he had Hakkai shared a moment of cuddly sweetness. It made him wonder, and it made him see the priest in a whole new light.
Sanzo, himself, was still wallowing in his quiet pit of depression, only showing his suffering when liquor was brought to the table or when he happened to fall prey to one of Gojyo’s displays of unusual affection for Hakkai; it should’ve been him looking up into kind crimson eyes as a roughened hand stroked his cheek, it should’ve been him that got to kick Goku out of the back seat to snuggle up next to Gojyo, and it should’ve been him that got to share the kappa’s room whenever they stumbled into a town. It just wasn’t fair.
He had loved Gojyo for so long, and Hakkai had never shown more than friendly kindness and it was the brunette that got to sleep with the taboo, and cuddle with him, and have kids with him and…and…god, he was miserable. The blonde felt somewhat stupid for pining over somebody like the lecherous taboo, but after seeing the sort of love and kindness the man was capable of he merely loved him all the more, which made his heart ache all the more, which led to his rather heavy drinking as of late and his excessive anger to mask his hurt.
So there was certainly more than one member of the ikkou that fell frequently into deep thought as of late.
“Aw shit…’Kai!” Gojyo stood up in his seat in Jeep, gripping the headrest of Sanzo’s seat to keep himself steady as he gazed out at the open field before them. “We got company sweetheart.” He explained and promptly dropped back into his seat just before Hakkai laid on the brakes, bringing Hakuryu to a screeching halt. Grunting, Gojyo stood up once more, his shakujo already in hand as he moved to press a kiss to the healer’s lips.
“Stay here. Goku, I want you to stay with Hakkai, alright?”
“What?! But you guys need me to fight! And Hakkai’s carrying YOUR baby so you should stay and protect him!” Gojyo had already leapt out of Jeep, Sanzo doing the same.
“Shut it, monkey. Hakkai, get out of here, we’ll catch up when this is done. Goku, you stay with Hakkai.” The monkey huffed and leapt into the front seat, pouting that he was being left behind from the battle but muttering a promise to take care of Hakkai for Gojyo.
“Gojyo…” Hakkai murmured in faint concern, already getting a good idea of the vast number of demons that advanced upon them at a rapid pace.
“I’ll be okay. Get outta here, or they’ll get you. Go!” Gojyo shouted, giving Hakuryu a boot in the tire before breaking into an easy sprint towards the advance demon hoards, Sanzo hot on his heels. These were the only times that they could put their differences aside and fight others rather than each other. As the demons saw them, fools that they were, they didn’t bother sending any out in search of the missing two and, instead, laughed gleefully at the paltry numbers that thought they could defeat them with.
Gojyo merely grinned as he dove headlong into battle, shakujo swinging wide, his blade sweeping out far; none of these demons would escape them. None.
Reluctantly, Hakkai had shifted Hakuryu back into gear and taken off at top speed away from the others, towards a forest that he had spotted nearby; it would be an adequate hiding spot until the other two could catch up with them. Driving in as far as they could, the demon pair hopped out of the Jeep, allowing the creature to transform and take his perch upon Hakkai’s shoulder, crooning softly in concern.
“You needn’t worry, Hakuryu. And I’ll make Gojyo apologize for kicking you when they return.” He reassured gently, stroking the little dragon’s head as he had Goku walked deeper into the trees, Goku keeping alert for any sounds of approaching footsteps or anything else of the sort.
Hakkai had never shown it, but over the last five months of his baby-enforced celibacy, Hakkai found his sexual needs ever growing along with his appetite and needs for sleep. Finding a nice clearing, the two demons sat down, Hakkai leaning back against a tree and sending Hakuryu to play look-out up in the treetops for them, leaving the two demons alone for the moment. Goku was sullen and bored, upset at missing out on the fight; the sight made the healer give a fond chuckle, rising to his feet and moving over towards Goku, sitting next to the youth.
“I am sorry, Goku. Because of me you are forced to miss out on a battle, and I’m sure you’d much rather be killing demons than sitting here with me.”
“Aw, ‘Kai, honestly, I don’t mind. It’s just…its Gojyo’s baby, shouldn’t he be the one protecting it?”
“He is, Goku, but he’s merely doing it on the frontline. He feels that he provides better protection by fighting them directly, rather than merely lingering about me.” Hakkai explained gently, stroking a hand through the spiky brunette hair of the younger demon, his expression warm, hiding his underlying need that surged through him. It hadn’t gone away since the night before, while he had nestled close to Gojyo, smelling his musky, masculine scent and nothing else. While the other had slept soundly, Hakkai had been restless, needy, and still that insistent stirring in his groin remained, hidden only by his baggy yukata that he now wore, finding that his usual clothes were growing far too snug around his swelling stomach.
Unthinking, unaware of his own actions, Hakkai found himself leaning down closer to curious golden eyes before his lips touches upon a startled mouth, tasting such amazing sweetness and innocence upon those parted petals.
